Pike County Cemeteries
Hartford Township

In these cemeteries are buried victims of Indian massacres, Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers, statesmen, legislators and community leaders. Pike County was a stepping off place for the great migration to the west. It, therefore, offers a wealth of information for those interested in the genealogy of their family. Most of the cemeteries in Pike County have been cataloged by the Daughters of the American Revolution, Pike County Chapter. The catalogs are available in each of the Pike County libraries.

There are, according to some genealogists, some 280 cemeteries in Pike County. One individual who, with his wife, concentrates on the small cemeteries says there are over 1,200 cemeteries in the county. As more info, pictures and time becomes available they will be added to this list. Please feel free to forward any information to Rhonda Stolte Darnell

Thanks to Steven Watts who came up with quite a few publication/microfilm reel numbers for cemeteries. These will be added on a line named Inscription. Microfilm can be viewed at nearly 1600 branch libraries of the Family History Library. The database for other County cemeteries can be found at http://www.ancestry.com.

The numbers you see listed with some of the cemeteries (e.g. T 52N R 2W Section 7) indicate the page of the platt book and the square (section) on that page in which you can find the cemetery.

Limited tombstone pictures are now available. This project was begun in August 2005, so you may expect more pictures to be added as they are acquired. Contributions are always welcome. If you have pictures you would like to share, forward them to Rhonda Stolte Darnell. Please include a transcription of the writing on the stone, where the stone is located, your name and a valid email address, in case she needs to contact you with questions. No stones representing living people, please.

In the late 1800's John Keith inherited this farm from his father, James R. Keith, and deeded an acre or so of his land to be known as the Keith Cemetery.
