pg. 2, col. 1:

                                         From the Salt River Journal.

DIED.—At his residence near Lousiana, Pike County, Mo„ SAMUEL WATSON, of that county, in the 84th year of his age, one of the First inhabitants of the county; he and two others viz: John Jordon, Esq. and Anthony Thomas, all of South Carolina, effected a settlement near Buffalo Licks in this county, in the fall of 1808, and with the exception of  a few years in the time of the last war, has been a constant inhabitant of the county.  He took an active part in the Revolutionary struggle between Great Britian and this country was almost constantly on military duty during that eventful period: and was in some of the principle battles fought in South Carolina between the British and Americans: and also in that early day he took an active part with his fellow citizens in quelling the inroads of their savage foes, set on by the British.

He was also a man who feared the Lord since my earliest recollection. He was a member of the church of Christ. His last days were days of feebleness and pain: but not a murmur escaped his lips. In regard to his suffering, he knew his dissolution was approaching. He died in hopes of a blessed immortality.
