Elizabeth Criswell

June 1905:

Death of Mrs. Criswell.

Mrs. Criswell, mother of Jesse Criswell and Mrs. Ike Wilson, died Sunday at the home of her son, James Criswell, northeast of Vandalia. She was about 72 years old and was well known in Audrain and Pike counties. The remains were interred at Curryville Monday.

Mrs. Elizabeth Criswell was born in Columbiana county, Ohio April 8, 1827. In her early womanhood she moved to Missouri where the remainder of her long life was spent. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church many years ago and has since lived a faithful, upright life.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Aker at the residence, and the remains were interred at the cemetery at Curryville.

Three children remain to mourn the death of a beloved mother; but they sorrow not as those who have no hope, for "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." We extend to these breaved ones our deepest sympathy and pray that they may so shape their lives, by the example of her who has passed from among them to her reward, and of Him who died for our transgressions that they meet an unbroken family around the great white throne.
