Death of Thos. Buchanan

The community was shocked on Monday morning to hear of the sudden death Sunday night of Thos. Buchanan, south of town.  He had retired about 9:30 in unusual good spirits.  Mr. and Mrs. Si Dye had spent the evening with them, and Mr. Buchanan had enjoyed the time very much.  Some time after he had retired, Mrs. Buchanan heard him groan and tried, ineffectually, to waken him.  By the time she called the other members of the family he was found to be dead.  Dr. Hollingsworth, who was called, pronounced his death due to hemorrhage of the brain.

Mr. Buchanan was born in Montgomery Co. Aug 7, 1861, and was 49 years of age.  He leaves a wife, four children, Claude, Mrs. Floyd Maxwell, Albert, Carl and Orville.  Also, five grand children and four brothers.

Mr. Buchanan was married Sept. 9, 1886 to Miss Alice Hudson by Rev. C. A. Mitchell, and Rev. Mitchell preached his funeral, which was held at the Vandalia Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  The interment was in the Vandalia cemetery.
