Kate [McConkey] Buchanan

In the peaceful early morning hours of the day before Christmas, Mrs. Lloyd B. Buchanan of Clarksville slipped softly away to her eternal reward, after several weeks of patient suffering.  During her illness, she had been tenderly cared for at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Boone Duncan of Louisiana.

At 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning [26th] the body of Mrs. Buchanan was removed to her home in Clarksville where it lay in state until time for the funeral at 2:30 o'clock that afternoon.

Many relatives and friends had gathered to pay their last tribute of love to one who had lived so long among them, and whose daily life had been a beautiful example of high and noble attributes of character.  The large number of floral offerings bore mute and elegant testimony of the esteems in which Mrs. Buchanan was held.

Kate McConkey was the daughter of Thomas J. and Betty Denny McConkey, and was born Jan 16th, 1864 in Clarksville, where she spent her entire life.  When a young girl, she made confession of her faith and united with the Christian Church where she remained a loyal member.

On October 10th, 1892, she was married to Lloyd Bryan Buchanan, and two children came to bless their home, Elizabeth, now Mrs. Boone Duncan of Louisiana, and William Francis of Clarksville.  Mr. Buchanan preceded his wife in death on May 23rd, 1936.

In addition to her son and daughter, Mrs. Buchanan is survived by three grandchildren, Betty Lou and Jimmy Lloyd Duncan of Louisiana, and Billy Buchanan of Clarksville, and one brother, Robert McConkey of Nauvoo, Ill.  Mr. McConkey was unable to be present at his sister's funeral.

The following were among those who attended the service from outside of Clarksville, and neighboring communities:  Mr. and Mrs. Moss Dearing of Palmyra, Mo., Mrs. Anna Mackey of Bowling Green, and Mr. and Mrs. John E. Duncan and daughter, Miss Martha Katherine, the Rev. and Mrs. M. F. Dawson, Mrs. D. A. Ball, Mrs. Lloyd Waugh, Mrs. J. C. Smith, Mrs. Percy Rose, Mrs. Mae Kennedy, Mrs. Clarence G. Wahl, Mrs. Louisa Stark, and Mrs. Albert Parson of Louisiana.
