OLAUS DAVIS BENNING

OBIT 
Olaus Davis Benning of Louisiana died October 13, 1984, at Pike County Hospital. He was 82.

Services for Mr. Benning were held at 2 P.M. today, October 15, at the First Christian Church in Louisiana. The Rev. Taylor O. Murphy, the church pastor, was the minister. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. The Sterne Funeral Home was in charge.

Mr. Benning was born August 26, 1902, in Louisiana, the son of O.P & Lena Davis Benning.

A life-long resident of Louisiana, he graduated from Louisiana High School in 1920, attended the University of Missouri and graduated from Washington University School of Law. Mr. Benning served as city attorney for Louisiana, prosecuting attorney for Pike County and as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri. He practiced law in Louisiana for many years.

Mr. Benning served as president of the Missouri Edison Company and as President of the Missouri Power and Light Company until his retirement in 1969. He was a director at the Bank of Louisiana for 50 years.

He was a Mason and a member of the Perseverance Lodge No. 92 in Louisiana for over 50 years. He was also a member of Louisiana Rotary for many years.

Mr. Benning was a member and had served as a deacon and elder of the First Christian Church in Louisiana. At the time of his death, he was an honorary elder.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Cornish Benning; two sons, Pat Benning of St. Louis; and John Davis Benning of Louisiana; by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Benning's honorary pallbearers were Charles Buffum, William Haley, Sr., Pat O'Connor, Halliday Jones, and John Bray.

His active pallbearers were Edward Behrens, Don Broermann, Sam Paul, John McIlroy, Sr., Tolson and Dude Branstetter.

The Louisiana Rotary Club attended the services in a body.
